Chelsea Cain Cracks Open the Door to: The Night Season (Presentation)

Chelsea Cain

The Night Season

As heavy rains pound Portland, apparent drowning victims keep surfacing on the Willamette River. While others tremble before the steadily rising waters, sleuth Archie Sheridan and reporter Susan Ward come to the harsh realization that a serial killer is loose and hiding behind nature's merciless torrents. Chelsea Cain's fourth Archie Sheridan mystery (Heartsick; Sweetheart; Evil at Heart) builds its intensity and suspense by rapid cuts between the ominous gathering flood and the dangerous manhunt.

Praise

The Night Season

"the world that Cain creates is as dark and ominous as ever...vertiginous, and thrilling. This is the mood that Cain has mastered... It ... presses her readers onward, pulses rising along with the waterline." — The New York Times

"Fighting the weather and a crafty killer... [Archie and Susan] continue to be haunted by their nemesis Gretchen Lowell, the so-called Beauty Killer...The pace is as relentless as the floodwaters engulfing Portland." — Library Journal

"deftly handled, the suspense is plentiful and Cain's evocation of the gloomy atmosphere and Portland setting is superb." — Kirkus Reviews

"This may be the best thriller set in a flooding city since Donna Leon's Acqua Alta" — Booklist (STARRED review)

Evil at Heart

Evil At Heart

In this grisly thriller, Archie and Gretchen continue their suspenseful game of cat-and-mouse. Detective Archie is in the nuthouse. Serial killer Gretchen is still at large. That doesn’t seem fair, does it? Bodies start turning up. But is Gretchen to blame, or is it a wily bunch of psychotic followers? Archie is determined to get out of the loony bin and back on the case.

Praise

"Gretchen Lowell strikes again—or does she?—in bestseller Cain's grisly third thriller to feature the female serial killer... A violent attack that leaves body parts in a rest stop bathroom, along with Lowell's signature heart design, persuades Sheridan... to leave rehab and rejoin the hunt ...Cain delivers... blood-soaked gore and compelling flawed heroes—and antiheroes." — Publishers Weekly

"Just two months after serial killer Gretchen Lowell, aka 'the Beauty Killer,' escapes...body parts begin showing up... snappy pace and sustained creepiness keep the pages turning at a steady clip. Not for the faint of heart, this addictive thriller will be quickly devoured by serial killer addicts." — Library Journal
