ABFAS Connecting Readers with Authors

A new month, a new year, and a new ABFAS featured author!
This month it's NY Times best-selling thriller writer, Kevin O'Brien!

Kevin O'BrienFinal Breath

Kevin O'Brien has written ten novels. His first novel, "Actors", was translated into three languages. His second book, "Only Son" was optioned for film rights by MGM. His third book, "The Next to Die", was praised by Publisher's Weekly for its "taut psychological suspense" and climbed up the USA Today bestseller charts. His subsequent books have achieved critical acclaim and headed straight to the NY Times best-seller list and "The Last Victim" won the Spotted Owl for Best Pacific Northwest Mystery. Though his fans will be glad to know that he is busily working away on his next book, they will be even happier to know that his latest book, "Final Breath" is now available - it was released on December 30th!

The Art of Racing in the Rain

We can't be more pleased that writers of Kevin's caliber are taking the time to share their thoughts, a bit of insight and an occasional book review on our ABFAS Forum each month and this month, Kevin has written a book review for Garth Stein's "The Art of Racing in the Rain", the story of Enzo - a dog with a nearly human soul who narrates the story. At the ABFAS Christmas Party, we ate and drank and kicked off the season being very, very merry!

Christmas Party

What a great time we all had at December's ABFAS Christmas party!

We were pleased at the great many people who turned out to start their Christmas Season with us and to meet our three authors, Jane Kirkpatrick, Lawney Reyes, and Lora Lea Misterley as they signed copies of their latest books (signed copies are still available - see below!)

We enjoyed yummy food & found some great books! Friends were made, prizes were won and many took home free Holiday goodie bags!

Congratulations to Georgeanne Nichols, Marcy Ostrom, and Sally Bauer for winning the night's prizes!

Thanks to all who made the night such a success, we'll look forward to seeing you all at our next ABFAS event! Until then, Happy New Year from the merrymaking bibliophiles at ABFAS!

Pat Rutledge

Pat's Corner

As 2008 comes to a close and 2009 peeks over the horizon, I would like to thank all of you who have supported A Book For All Seasons--both those who live in the area who are committed to shopping locally and those who come from more distant regions who support independents no matter where they may be. Here's to all of you. Hope your holidays were well spent and I hope your new year is a step toward a brighter tomorrow.

2008 was a wild year full of ups and downs--certainly a year like no other. As a part of our community here in Leavenworth, we try to keep our ear open to what our customers are saying. One request that has come up frequently is for us to host more free events. Now, in partnership with Leavenworth community library, we have a space to hold these author events. Of course, we'll still have some of our signature author breakfasts or dinners at various local restaurants and our in-store signings (which are also free), but now on top of that we will hold some events at our local library, and these will be open to the public, free of charge. These events will include author readings, slideshows and other presentations. We hope to see your there.

Sing Them Home

So, happy new year to all. Thank you for all of your support. And, before I forget, my January book pick is Sing Them Home by Stephanie Kallos. It's the perfect book to start your new year with; a great story and lots of pages and we have autographed copies available too.
