Events at A Book For All Seasons

We love to support our local authors and our events allow us to give something back to the community as well. We offer book signings, talks, readings, writing workshops, and meals with an author—often accompanied with a slide show.

Poor Again, Dagnabbit!

Fri, Mar 12
7:30 PM

Poor Again, Dagnabbit! a one-man play by Patrick McManus, performed by Tim Behrens at the Performing Arts Center of Wenatchee.

Patrick McManus

Impoverished actor Tim Behrens will portray nationally renowned humor writer Patrick McManus in his new, laugh-out-loud play. "The worldwide recession continues to increase the spread of laughlessness across the land," says Behrens, "and we aim to do our part to combat this situation."

Poor Again, Dagnabbit! is a hilarious description of Pat's childhood of poverty, his confrontations with wolves at the door, and the Great Depression's impact on everything from maggot farming to school assignments to dating. You'll learn how to make — and more importantly, how to inventively present — poverty foods like blood sausage, head cheese and turkey gravy. And how to build a car from spare parts.

McManus, one of the most popular humor writers in the country, has penned 21 titles which have sold more than 6 million copies. Five of his short humor collections have made the N.Y. Times Bestseller's list.

McManus' previous one-man shows, all performed by Behrens, have played to more than 400,000 people in 21 states. The Billings Gazette says: "Behrens doing McManus is like a cross between Mark Twain and Bill Cosby." And the Spokane Spokesman Review worried that "paramedics would have to be called in, people were laughing so hard."

A Book For All Seasons will make all of Patrick McManus' books available at the performance, and Patrick McManus will be on hand to meet readers and personally autograph purchases. And one lucky ticket-holder will win accommodations in Innsbrucker Inn's book-themed Patrick McManus room, complements of A Book For All Seasons.

Tickets, $21 with a discount for children, are available by calling 509-663-ARTS or visiting www.pacwen.org.
